Rapper Takeoff 28 years old , one-third of the  platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated group Migos, was shot and killed in Houston early Tuesday.

The real name of the artist and rapper is Kirshnik Khari Ball.

Kirshnik Khari Ball was born in Lawrenceville, Georgia. He was raised in Lawrenceville by his mother, along with family members Quavo and Offset.

Offset, who is married to Cardi B, released a solo album in 2019, while Takeoff and Quavo released a joint album, “Only Built for Infinity Links,” last month.

The trio also played a fictional version of themselves on an episode of the hit TV show “Atlanta,” but the group was not currently together.

He was best known as a member of the hip hop trio Migos along with his uncle Quavo and first cousin once removed Offset.

 As a member of of the group, they had scored multiple top ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100 including "MotorSport" featuring Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, "Stir Fry", "Walk It Talk It" featuring Drake, and "Bad and Boujee", featuring Lil Uzi Vert, the latter of which peaked at number one on the chart ..

 He also received two Grammy Award nominations.

He started making beats and developing rhythms in the seventh grade, but did not start producing music professionally until 2011.

Takeoff, the third member of Migos alongside the rappers Quavo and Offset, has died. 

 In his book Rap Capital: An Atlanta Story, Joe Coscarelli says that Takeoff “put the most early hours into the craft of rapping” of the three members of Migos, and was greatly inspired by Lil Wayne’s rap group the Hot Boys, as well as the Tupac, Biggie and OutKast albums they would buy at the local flea market.

In 2008, Takeoff, Quavo and Offset – Takeoff’s cousin – began rapping under the collective name Polo Club, and in 2011, the trio released Juug Season, their debut mixtape as Migos.

Takeoff told the Fader in 2017 “Growing up, I was trying to make it in music. I was grinding, which is just what I loved doing,”  “Just making something and creating for me … I was getting my own pleasure out of it, because it’s what I liked doing. I’d wait for Quavo to get back from football practice and I’d play my songs for him.”

Takeoff was the youngest member of Migos, the rap trio from suburban Atlanta that also featured his uncle Quavo, real name Quavious Keyate Marshall, and a cousin, Offset, or Kiari Kendrell Cephus, 30.

The group had four Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, although Takeoff was not on its multiweek No. 1 “Bad and Boujee,” featuring Lil Uzi Vert. It put out a trilogy of albums called “Culture,” “Culture II” and “Culture III,” with the first two albums hitting No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

It also earned an ASCAP Vanguard Award in 2018 for its streaming success with multiplatinum songs such as “Motorsport" (featuring Cardi B and Nicki Minaj), “Stir Fry” and “Walk It Talk It.”

In 2013, Migos released Versace, their first mainstream hit. The song was notable for popularising the triplet flow – Migos’ signature rapid-fire cadence – within modern rap, and was eventually remixed by Toronto rapper Drake, who would go on to have a long-running association with all three members of the group.

Migos are best known for their 2016 Lil Uzi Vert collaboration Bad and Boujee, which peaked at No 1 in the US, as well as Top 10 hits MotorSport, with Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, and Walk It Talk It, with Drake.

As a solo artist, Takeoff released one album – 2018’s The Last Rocket, which debuted at No 4 in the US – and one record as a duo, last month’s Only Built for Infinity Links, with Quavo.

The single quickly became an internet sensation, spawning a multitude of memes that played the lyrics "raindrop, raindrop".

The song received an even bigger boost after "Atlanta" creator and star Donald Glover mentioned the single during an acceptance speech at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards.

Takeoff and Quavo had recently formed the duo “Unc & Phew” and released their debut album “Only Built for Infinity Links” on October 7th.

During a recent conversation on the "Drink Champs" podcast just days before his death, Takeoff accepted praise for his performance in the new project. "I'm quiet. I'm relaxed, but it's time to blow it up,” “It’s time to pop it, you know what I mean? Takeoff said. “It is time to accept the flowers. I don't want them later when I'm not here anymore."
